John Llewellyn has announced his intent to run for the Board of Education in November and is seeking a nomination on the Republican ticket at the July 23rd caucus vote.
John and his wife, Dawn, have lived in Fairfield for 18 years and have three children who have attended Fairfield Public Schools. Throughout this time, John has been an active volunteer both in the school system and in different capacities locally outside of the school system. This past year, John served as the RLMS PTA Council Representative in an advisory capacity and recently participated in the middle school principal selection process for the district and for the past 5 years, John has been contributing his photography and carpentry expertise to the Roger Ludlowe Middle School Drama Club. John is also an active member of the Board of Directors for Humanity Now, a not for profit organization which focuses on empowering students to positively impact the lives of others through service work. Additionally, John has coached middle school students in various enrichment activities including a First Lego League Robotics team, a UConn Science Bowl Car Competition team, and Fairfield Youth Lacrosse.
John graduated from the Economic Honors Program at Boston College and received his MBA from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He has over 20 years of consulting experience in Corporate Restructuring, of which 17 years were with two Big Four accounting firms, Ernst & Young and Deloitte, as a Principle/Partner. John had the opportunity to consult both a large municipality and large school district where he worked closely with administrators and employees to evaluate cash flows and budgets, and to increase operational efficiency. He is intimately familiar with the accounting, budgeting and business plan development that a school district undergoes.
John values a high quality education and encourages a shared commitment to assuring a strong and coherent education system to prepare all students for the 21st century. John also believes in the importance of increasing student achievement in all areas and fostering higher expectations for all students. He believes these goals can be accomplished through transparency, open communication with parents and teachers, and increased fiscal responsibility. He advocates for increased efficiency and accountability through establishing district goals and metrics to assess areas of success and identify areas needing improvement.
John’s strong financial background, experience working as a consultant to a school district, forward-looking vision and grounded commitment to education make him uniquely qualified to be a member of the Fairfield Board of Education. By increasing efficiency within the district, John would like to see educational programs restored. He truly believes that our children are our future and we can best prepare them for that future with a strong education and an instilled sense of inquisitiveness.
